About Us
We provide a full range of law enforcement and public safety services to those who reside and travel within Washington State. With over 17,000 miles of state highway, troopers are dedicated to improving quality of life and preventing unnecessary loss. This is accomplished through a variety of avenues, including identifying and enforcing criminal and traffic law, responding to and investigating collisions, conducting misdemeanor and felony criminal cases, expediting the safe flow of traffic, providing assistance to motorists, victims of crime, the general public, and governmental bodies, and collaborating with allied law enforcement agencies.

Pay
Salaries will be based upon years of service as a certified peace officer consistent with the bargained wages for troopers as defined in the Washington State Patrol Troopers Association (WSPTA) collective bargaining agreement.

Recruitment Incentive
$8,000 after completion of lateral training class, $6,000 after completion of one year probationary period, and $6,000 after completion of two years of service.
Continuing Education
We will pay for you to continue pursuing your degree. There is a 2% raise for a associate degree, and 4% for a bachelor degree.

WSP offers more health care options, including dental, than almost any other employer in the state.
Loan Forgiveness
WSP Employees may also be qualified for the U.S. Department of Education’s Public Service Loan Forgiveness program for student loans.
Requirements
- Successful completion of Basic Law Enforcement Academy and Probationary period.
- No sustained misconduct violations for excessive use of force, firearms usage, or discriminatory policing (bias).
- No sustained misconduct violations within the past 3 years.
- No suspensions, revocations, or discipline affecting peace officer certification.
- No felony convictions.
- No misdemeanor convictions involving DUI, use or possession of firearms in the commission of a crime, crimes of violence (i.e., domestic violence, assault, sex crimes, etc.), or controlled substances.
- Applicant must possess a current, non-probationary, and non-restricted valid driver’s license. History of restrictions on license or driving record due to vehicle operation or control as reported on the Abstract of Driving Record will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Upon hire, must possess a Washington State driver’s license and maintain such licensure during employment with the WSP.
