On Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 10:37 am a major mudslide occurred four miles east of Oso, WA, on SR530, between the towns of Darrington and Arlington. The slide killed 43 people. 89 Troopers, Sergeants, and Lieutenants responded, working on search and rescue, incident command and traffic control.

The summer of 2014 proved to be the driest and largest fire season in a decade. One million acres burned, costing the state $178 million, including the largest fire in Washington State history, known as the Carlton Complex fire that started on July 14 and burned 256,108 acres in Okanogan County. The Fire Mobilization Program was activated 15 times.
