WSP joined forces with Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife to create a joint Chaplaincy Program. In April, Chaplain Mike Neil was selected as the WSP Senior Chaplain.
In May, Washington State was recognized as having the third best safety rating for trucks in the country.
Due to budget constraints, the Auto Theft Unit was cut.
The trooper vacancy rate became a noticeable issue with 57 vacancies across the state, and at the time 79 commissioned officers eligible for retirement.
Troopers began receiving the first installations of the Mobile Office Platform (MOP) hardware in their vehicles, which included an in-car video camera and a rugged laptop or tablet. This technology was designed to improve safety, provide increased accountability and efficiency, and streamline a trooper’s ability for proactive enforcement. The MOP platform consists of Statewide Electronic Collision and Ticket Online Records (SECTOR), Wireless access to criminal history and driver/vehicle data, in-car digital and audio recording capabilities, and office automation tools.
