In May, the WSP was named the country’s “Best Dressed Agency” by the National Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors, and received the honor in 2009 as well. In July, the WSP began using specially equipped Cessna aircraft to assist with DUI enforcement. The program was named DUI Aerial Response Team (DART) and used FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) equipped aircraft to locate, track and coordinate the apprehension of impaired, reckless and aggressive drivers. On August 12, 2008 the WSP was named the overall winner of the Chief’s Challenge by the IACP, making the WSP the “best police agency” in the nation, recognizing the work in reducing deaths and injuries on highways.
