I graduated form North Mason High School in Belfair, Washington. I attended Seattle University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1979. On August 9, 1985, I joined the WSP, attended the 62nd Basic Trooper Cadet Class and was assigned as a line traffic trooper to Bremerton from December 1985 until February 1992. I promoted to sergeant in February 1992 and was assigned as a detachment supervisor in Goldendale. I was assigned as a pilot to the Aviation Section in Yakima from August 1994 until February 1997. I transferred to the Aviation Section in Olympia in February 1997. I promoted to lieutenant in February 2000 and was assigned as an Assistant District Commander in District 1, Tacoma. I was promoted to captain on May 17, 2004, and assigned to District 5.
