Welcome to District 3’s home page. The district's headquarters is located in Union Gap, with detachment offices located in Grandview, Kennewick, and Walla Walla. Please visit our Detachments web page to view the specific information about each office.

There are 142 Washington State Patrol employees serving the south central and southeastern part of our state including Yakima, Benton, Franklin, Walla Walla, Garfield, Columbia, and Asotin counties. There are 53 field troopers and seven sergeants who are responsible for enforcing traffic and criminal laws, collision investigation, and assisting motorists on 1,000 miles of state routes and Interstate highways. In addition to the 53 field troopers, we also have troopers and commercial vehicle officers focused on enforcing laws related to commercial trucks, as well as troopers assigned as detectives. The district also has civil service employees who provide vital support to our district such as communications officers, professional office staff, radio technicians, fire marshals, evidence officers, and vehicle identification number (VIN) inspectors.

Goals & Objectives

In support of the Washington State Patrol's Strategic Plan and the Field Operations Bureau's Strategic Plan, District 3 adopted four goals for the district: :

1. Reduce the number of collisions involving impaired drivers on state and interstate highways.
2. Reduce the number of speed-related collisions on the state and interstate highways.
3. Reduce incidents of aggressive driving on state and interstate highways.
4. Increase use of seat belts and child restraints on state and interstate highways.

Command & Support Staff

As an Assistant District Commander, Lieutenant Tom Foster oversees the detachments working out of the Union Gap and Grandview offices. He is housed at the District Headquarters in Union Gap.

Lieutenant Mike Saunders also serves as an Assistant District Commander. He oversees the two Kennewick detachments, and the Walla Walla detachment. Lieutenant Saunders is housed in the Kennewick Detachment office.
