Traffic Safety Near Jolly Mt. Fire

Cle Elum -- With the increase in emergency personnel near the Jolly Mt. Fire in Cle Elum, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) is reminding drivers to use extra caution to ensure first responders can safely conduct their operations.

Heavy smoke throughout North Central Washington is creating difficult driving conditions with poor visibility. Drivers should expect changing conditions for the next several weeks as fires throughout Washington continue to fill the region with smoke.

Drivers need to slow down and increase their following distance.  Minimize distractions while driving to avoid a collision.  Drivers should drive with their headlights and taillights on, even during daylight hours.  Drivers should minimize any passing over Blewett Pass during these conditions.

The WSP will take appropriate enforcement for those driving aggressively and making unsafe passes.

The WSP is asking drivers to have patience traveling along I-90, US 97, SR 970, SR 10 and SR 903 as first responders are working in the area.  Drivers heading to North Central Washington need to check for road closures prior to leaving.  Several Forest Service roads have been closed along US 97 Blewett Pass and throughout the Roslyn and Ronald communities.
