Quick Actions from Veteran Trooper Help Save Woman's Life

The actions of veteran Washington State Patrol Trooper Lance Ramsay saved a woman's life; however for him, it's just "part of the job."

On Friday, February 10, 2017, Trooper Ramsay observed a white 2012 Acura SUV driving erratically northbound Interstate 405 approaching State Route 527 in Snohomish County. The vehicle was colliding into the left guardrail when Trooper Ramsay activated his lights and sirens. When the driver failed to comply, Trooper Ramsay drove alongside the vehicle and observed the female driver's head slumped forward; it appeared the driver was possibly suffering from a medical condition.

The vehicle was quickly approaching the base of the SR 527 overpass, when Trooper Ramsay made the decision to pull in front of the vehicle, slow down his patrol car, and allow to vehicle to strike him from behind. Had Trooper Ramsay not taken this selfless action, the driver most likely would have continued into the guardrail until she collided with the overpass base and spun out into rush hour traffic; which could have caused a more serious collision.

After the vehicle made contact with Trooper Ramsay's car, he rushed to the driver and found her still suffering from a medical condition. Trooper Ramsay then broke out the passenger side window in order to make contact with the woman. He immediately called for an ambulance; and because of his quick actions, medical personnel were able to transport the woman to Harborview Medical Center where she was treated for having a stroke. She is currently recovering.

Trooper Ramsay was also transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries. When asked about the incident, Trooper Ramsay said he felt like he was just doing his job, but is thankful the driver is okay and with her family.
