First Net Nanny Trial Over – Guilty as Charged
Pierce County – The first jury trial for a subject arrested during the Washington State Patrol's Operation Net Nanny concluded yesterday in Pierce County with a verdict of guilty.
Darcy Racus, 51, was found guilty on one count of Attempted Rape of a Child 1st Degree and one count of Communicating with a Minor for Immoral Purposes.
Racus was arrested on December 17, 2015, after answering an online ad posted by undercover detectives assigned to the State Patrol's Missing and Exploited Children Task Force (MECTF). During internet and telephone conversations Racus expressed his desire to engage in sexual activities with what he believed to be an 11 year old girl. Racus traveled to the address he was given and brought candy for the child.
Lieutenant Mike Eggleston is the commander of the WSP Special Investigations Section and oversees MECTF.
"This is exactly the outcome we had hoped for", Eggleston says. "These child predators are taking advantage of the internet to engage in horrendous criminal acts and it's our job to stop as many as we can. I am proud of our people and also proud of our partners in the criminal justice community that are working tirelsessly with us to accomplish this".
Racus was remanded into custody immediately and will be sentenced at a later date. Racus faces a sentencing range of 69 ¾ months to life.
To date, Operation Net Nanny has been conducted in five counties: Kitsap, Pierce, Snohomish, Spokane and Thurston. The total operational time has been 26 days. In that time, 63 child predators have been arrested and charged with various child exploitation offenses. 17 sexually exploited children have been identified and recovered.
The funding for this operation was possible due in part to donations from the public.

MECTF is a state law enforcement agency governed by RCW 13.60.110, and not designated as a 501 (c)(3) charity. Please consult with your tax professional or the Internal Revenue Service to determine if your donation is tax exempt.
All proceeds go directly to the identification and safe recovery of exploited children, the investigation of those that sexually exploit children, and successful apprehension and prosecution thereof.
