Suspect From Deadly Hit and Run Collision Booked Into Jail

King County -- At approximately 5:00pm today, Oscar Gutierrez-De Jesus was booked into the King County Jail on charges of Vehicular Homicide and Felony Hit and Run.

At approximately 4:47am on September 12, 2016, Gutierrez-DeJesus was driving on the exit ramp from NB I-5 to NE 50th when his vehicle left the roadway and ran over a tent with 19 year old Walter L. Burton inside. As a result of this collision, Burton lost his life and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gutierrez-DeJesus fled the scene and due to the outstanding police work and decisive decision making by the Seattle Police Department (SPD), he was taken into custody at his residence shortly after the collision occurred.

Gutierrez-DeJesus was transported to Harborview Medical Center to treat injuries from the collision and subsequently placed under arrest for Vehicular Homicide and Felony Hit and Run.

Due to the great partnership with Seattle Police Department and the WSP Criminal Investigation Division meticulously processing the scene, Gutierrez has now been booked into jail.

The Washington State Patrol stresses that this tragedy occurred due to the choice of one individual to get behind the wheel while impaired.
