First Day Trooper's First Traffic Stop Nets Suspected Drunk Driver

Vancouver -- On his very first day patrolling the streets of Chehalis, and during his very first traffic stop, a brand new trooper took a suspected DUI driver off the streets. Trooper Jeff Wallace was participating in district orientation, to familiarize himself with his newly assigned beat in Chehalis Washington. While driving through the City of Toledo, Trooper Wallace observed the vehicle in front him driving on the shoulder and repeatedly crossing the center line. He activated his emergency lights, stopped and contacted the driver. After conducting a field interview and the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST's), Trooper Wallace arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI.

Trooper Wallace is from Vancouver Washington. He graduated from the 105th Trooper Basic Class on November 19, 2015. Today marked his first day as a commissioned trooper and his very first traffic stop.

Trooper Wallace's arrest occurred as the Washington State Patrol prepares for Holiday Emphasis Patrols targeting impaired drivers. With the approaching holiday season, the Washington State Patrol would like to remind everyone to plan ahead and not drink, use marijuana or drugs and drive.
