Updated Express Toll Lanes Traffic Stops Statistics

King County -- The following are updated statistics from traffic stops by the Washington State Patrol on the new I-405 Express Toll Lanes. Special emphasis patrols began on Sunday, the opening of the toll lanes:

Total Contacts: 245
Citations: 28
Direct Access Violations: 8
Lane Violations:157
HOV Violations: 33
Avoiding Tolls: 11

Troopers will continue to use the first several weeks educating motorist of the changes involved in the new toll lanes with warnings and literature. The WSP wants to help commuters have a better understanding of the new rules associated with the I-405 Express Toll Lanes.

As with any traffic stop, a trooper has discretion in whether or not to issue a citation. If a trooper believes that a motorist is deliberately defrauding the new toll system or driving in a manner that is not safe, a citation may be issued to the driver.

Any driver who plans to use or is confused with the new tolling system is encouraged to contact the DOT website at http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Tolling/405/
