Heading to the Evergreen State Fair? Drivers Asked to Use Caution
Monroe -- As the Evergreen State Fair is in full swing, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) would like to prepare drivers for a safe commute to and from the Monroe Fairgrounds. Our goal is to prevent collisions from occurring. We are asking drivers to pay attention 100% of the time while they are behind the wheel. The Fair runs from now through September 2nd.
Drivers should watch for heavier than normal traffic, both east and westbound on SR-2. Motorists traveling into Monroe from eastbound SR-522 should also use caution. Particular attention should be taken as to not block intersections, or drive on the shoulder to by-pass stopped traffic. Today, traffic was backed up approximately 3 ½ miles eastbound on SR-2 heading into Monroe.
We’re asking all drivers and motorcyclists to slow down, take their time and watch out for each other. Drivers and riders should expect heavier than normal vehicle and pedestrian traffic volumes in these areas. This will hopefully ease frustrations, remembering they will not be the only ones wanting to get their mouths on that Funnel Cake or Elephant Ear!
The last thing we want to have is a serious injury or fatality collision. We want drivers to have a save trip to and from the fair.
