Officer Involved Shooting Update
The Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office has completed their review of the officer involved shooting on February 5, 2013, involving the shooting of Jacob Dorfman by SPD Officer Adam Valdez. The Prosecutor’s Office has determined Officer Valdez was justified in his use of deadly force in this incident.
On February 5, 2013, at approximately 1:30 am, Spokane Police Officers responded to multiple calls of shots being fired in the area of 9th and Monroe. Upon their arrival, officers encountered Jacob Dorfman, armed with a handgun. Mr. Dorfman failed to comply with their instructions to drop his weapon and fled. After a short pursuit, Dorfman crashed his vehicle, again failed to comply with officers’ repeated commands to drop his weapon, pointed his .40 caliber Glock handgun at an officer, and was shot by Police Officer Adam Valdez.
The release of the Spokane County Prosecutor’s findings marks the conclusion of the Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team (SIRR) investigation. For further information regarding the prosecutors findings, please contact the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office.
