Traffic Alert – Funeral Escort

On Monday July 8, 2013, at approximately 2:30 p.m. motorists on Interstate 90 westbound and State Route 902 in the Spokane area should expect delays for the funeral procession honoring Spokane Firefighter John Knighten.Law enforcement personnel will be escorting the motorcade that will leave the Spokane Convention Center proceeding through downtown Spokane entering Interstate 90 at the westbound Maple Street on ramp. The procession will move westbound on Interstate 90 exiting at State Route 902 Medical Lake, continuing westbound on State Route 902 and ending at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery near the City of Medical Lake.

Motorists should expect slow or stopped traffic as well as on and off ramp closures as the procession is underway. The Washington State Patrol will be coordinating all movements with the Washington State Department of Transportation providing updates to motorists via variable message signs and highway radio updates. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the downtown area around the time of the procession and are asked to not stop or park on the procession route.
