WSP Detectives Seek Additional Witnesses of Bus Collision
The Washington State Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating a fatal traffic collision involving a Sound Transit bus and a Ford Escape SUV which occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. last night (May 6, 2013). The bus was exiting the northbound lanes of I-405 to NE 128th St in Kirkland when it collided with the Escape which was traveling east on 128th St NE. Preliminary investigation indicates the bus traveled through a red traffic signal prior to impact. The bus driver stated he could not stop due to brake failure. He was able to bring the bus to a stop over 3500 feet to the north on the left shoulder of 405. Both right side passengers in the Ford Escape were fatally injured and the driver suffered severe injuries and is being treated at Harborview Medical Center. At least one of the 23 passengers on the bus was injured; however their injuries were not serious.
