Highway 14 Collision Causes Serious Injury, Closes Roadway
A collision involving a commercial truck and passenger car along State Route 14 near Stevenson caused serious injuries to a Puyallup man yesterday morning.
At just after 10:00 a.m., a 1990 Honda Civic driven by 56-year-old Gary E. Vaughn of Puyallup, was traveling eastbound. At milepost 42 he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the centerline. His vehicle struck a westbound 2003 Kenworth semi-truck that was hauling double tank trailers driven by 56-year-old Brian K. Van Dyken of Maple Falls, Washington. The double tank trailers were designed to carry hot asphalt. The tanks were empty and remained intact.
Vaughn was airlifted to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver with serious injuries. Van Dyken was not injured. Traffic was detoured around the scene for approximately 2 ½ hours using Ash Lake Road. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
