Father and Son Killed In Interstate 5 Crash

The Washington State Patrol is continuing with the investigation into Thursday morning’s collision on I-5 at MP 63 in Lewis County that took the lives of two Vancouver residents who are father and son. At approximately 8:18 a.m., a 1998 Toyota T-100 pickup driven by 43 year old Anatoliy P. Kovalchuk was northbound on I-5 at milepost 63 in the left lane. The vehicle he was driving stuck the rear of a 2008 Kenworth semi truck with a flatbed trailer driven by 44 year old Truman J. Swinhart of Spokane. Swinhart’s truck was at the very end of an approximately 4 mile long traffic back up from an earlier collision on I-5 at milepost 68. Anatoliy Kovalchuk and his son, 15 year old Mark Kovalchuk, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Both victims were not wearing a seat belt.
