Quick Actions by a Trooper Saves Woman’s Life

Just after 2 p.m. today, WSP Communications received a phone call that a female was on an overpass near the Tacoma Dome and had intentions of committing suicide.  Troopers flooded the area attempting to locate the woman.  Moments later, WSP Communications received additional calls that a female pedestrian was walking in traffic southbound I-5 on the ramp to I-705.

A trooper was in that area and observed a female sitting on the railing of the overpass with one of her legs dangling over the edge.  The trooper was able to quickly stop his patrol car, get out, and approach the woman without her noticing.  The trooper grabbed onto the woman and pulled her back over the barrier without incident.  While the trooper was pulling her back over, the woman asked the trooper to let her go because she wanted to jump.

The 24 year-old Tacoma woman had self inflicted lacerations on her wrists and stomach.  Medical personnel responded and transported her to a local hospital for treatment.  Without a doubt, the quick actions of the trooper saved this woman’s life.
