2011 District 1 Report Card
Troopers in District 1 (Thurston and Pierce counties) work very hard enforcing laws to keep citizens safe on our roadways. Every time a trooper stops an impaired, speeding, or aggressive driver, a life is potentially saved. Citizens expect hard work from us, and here’s what we’ve done for them in District 1 in 2011:
- (DUI’S) Impaired Drivers: Troopers removed 3,895 drivers from our roadways who were impaired by alcohol and/or drugs.
- Speeders: Troopers stopped 51,821 speeding drivers, and issued 36,444 tickets.
- Aggressive Drivers: Troopers stopped 7,660 aggressive drivers who have committed two or more moving violations that are likely to endanger persons or property, or any single intentional violation that requires defensive reaction by another driver.
- Calls for Service: Troopers received and responded to 51,969 calls for service where they assisted stranded motorists, removed debris from the roadway, and provided back-up and assistance to other troopers and law enforcement agencies.
- Total Stops:Troopers stopped and contacted 110,254 drivers.
In 2011, District 1 even started making use of the social networking site, Twitter (@wspd1pio), to further serve the public and get information out more quickly than ever before.
Have a Happy New Year everyone...Be safe tonight!I'm excited for our 2012 together!!

Now we’re getting to the really good stuff…The outcomes of all this hard work. We’ve seen a reduction in fatality, injury, property damage, and non-reportable collisions. This has, and always will be, our goal! We truly believe our efforts on the road enforcing collision causing violations directly contributed to these reductions. Keeping our roads safe is a huge job. Washington State Patrol troopers will continue working hard to keep citizens safe, and to earn their trust and confidence.
