Good to Know - Collision Investigation

Olympia -- When a collision takes place a common question always asked is,” What happened…?” In law enforcement, there are specially trained detectives called Reconstructionist, who can literally reconstruct a collision scene. It requires officers to use advanced analytical skills with a healthy dose of math and science. The reconstruction school is known for being one of the most academically challenging courses in law enforcement. These detectives are fact finders that look at all of the evidence so they can answer that inevitable question of...”What happened?”

This month’s edition of the WSP series “Good to Know” will explain how are our detectives in the Criminal Investigative Division are committed to very detailed and thorough investigations.

“Collision reconstruction is a unique science within law enforcement.  Our detectives attend nearly 400 hours of technical training in order to attain their certifications,” said Captain Jay Cabezuela, Criminal Investigative Division Commander. “Our goal is to accurately recreate collisions, determine the cause of collisions, and bring closure to those impacted by these tragic events.”
