24 New Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers are Hitting the Road
Olympia -- The Washington State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Division’s 4th Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Basic Class graduation will be held on October 20, 2011, at 1 p.m. The graduation includes 24 Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers and local law enforcement officers from around the state that went through the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance training.
The officers are from the following agencies:
- Washington State Patrol
- Chewelah Police Department
- Seattle Police Department
- Spokane County Sheriff’s Department
- Spokane Police Department
- Tacoma Police Department
- Vancouver Police Department
Roadside inspectors are highly-trained professionals who save lives every day by keeping unsafe commercial vehicles and drivers off the roads. The work of an inspector is not easy, but it is one of the most vital in public safety.
“Although semi trucks can be intimidating, these officers received several hours of certified training to conduct inspections,” said Captain Darrin Grondel of the State Patrol’s Commercial Vehicle Division. Many lives have been saved by the work being performed by officers such as these. In the past three years Washington State has seen a 50% reduction in CMV related fatalities (58 to 24), and many more lives will be saved in the future due to their professionalism and commitment to commercial vehicle safety. “We cannot do it alone and appreciate the help of the local law enforcement agencies to make a difference in keeping our roadways safe.”
The graduation will take place at the Washington State Patrol Academy’s multi-purpose room in Shelton.
