Reduced Speed Limit on SR-101 for Thurston County Drivers
Thurston County -- Starting Tuesday, October 18, 2011, crews from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will install signs on southbound SR-101 between Crosby Boulevard and the I-5 interchange that will reduce the speed limit from 60 to 45 mph. This change will only impact southbound traffic heading toward the I-5 interchange. The northbound speed limit will remain 60 mph.
Most commuters traveling through this area have seen what’s left of the collisions that occur there on a regular basis. Coordinating with WSDOT to lower the speed limit will reduce the potential for collisions. The Washington State Patrol and WSDOT fully understand this will not stop all collisions; reduction of collisions and driver safety is our goal.
Troopers will be using the minimum amount of enforcement necessary over a 30 day transition period to educate drivers on the speed limit change. However, if you’re the causing driver of a collision, be prepared to receive a traffic infraction.
