Seatbelts Prevent Serious Injury in Four Car Rollover Collision

Four occupants in a minivan received minor injuries when it became part of a four car collision which forced it across four lanes of traffic and down an embankment.

Just before 12:30 p.m. this afternoon a blue Chevrolet Trailblazer merged onto southbound I-5 from the Spokane Street ramp when it lost control struck a blue Dodge pickup truck.  Both vehicles began to rotate across the lanes of I-5.  The Dodge struck a Mini Cooper which caused it to drive straight across the southbound lanes toward the HOV lane.  A gold Plymouth Voyager traveling in the HOV lane was struck by the Mini Cooper and sent to the right across all the lanes of I-5 where it hit curb on the right shoulder and rolled several times down the embankment.

The family in the Voyager from Bend, Oregon, received minor injuries in the collision.  The driver, a 54-year-old man, his 48-year-old wife and their seven and nine year old daughters were all properly secured avoiding serious injury when the vehicle rolled.  The family was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.  No other injuries were reported in the collision.

Collisions like this one are far too common.  Using proper child seats and seatbelts for every occupant of a vehicle can make the difference between a minor injury collision and a fatality.
