Trooper Injured in DUI Collision on Interstate 405

A trooper and violator were struck while standing outside their vehicles when an impaired driver drove into the back of a patrol car parked on the right shoulder.

At 11:45 p.m. last night, Trooper Michael Porter, a 2 ½ year veteran with the Washington State Patrol, stopped a silver BMW X3 and performed an investigation for DUI on the right shoulder of northbound Interstate 405 in the area of State Route 520.  While the trooper was placing the driver under arrest for investigation of DUI, his patrol car was struck by a green Acura Integra and pushed into the back of the BMW.  Trooper Porter and the DUI suspect driver, a 32-year-old male from Bellingham, were struck by the hood of the BMW when it was pushed forward.  The driver of the Acura, a 26 year-old-female from Shoreline, is under investigation for DUI and Vehicular Assault.

All involved parties were transported to Overlake Medical center with potentially serious injuries.  Trooper Porter has been released to his residence with the majority of his injuries to his leg where he was struck by the BMW.
