35-Year-Old Lacey Man Killed in High Speed Collision
Thurston County -- Wednesday evening at approximately 9:09 p.m., a 35-year-old Lacey man was killed in a collision on Yelm Highway. The Lacey man was driving westbound on Yelm Hwy approaching Landview Dr. in a gold 1998 Chrysler Cirrus at what witnesses reported as an “extremely high rate of speed”.
A 24-year-old Lacey man was driving a black 2001 Ford F-250 pick-up and attempted to make a left turn onto Yelm Hwy from Landview Dr. The 35-year-old Lacey man driving the Chrysler struck the Ford pick-up on the driver’s side behind the rear tire. The 35-year-old Lacey man was pronounced deceased at the collision scene by medical personnel.
Both vehicles involved had passengers at the time of the collision. The passenger in the Ford pick-up was a 23-year-old Lacey man and was not injured. The passenger in the Chrysler was a 23-year-old Lacey female and was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
All occupants were wearing their seatbelts and our preliminary investigation indicates that speed and alcohol are factors in this collision.
