Car vs. Semi Collision Halts Afternoon Traffic on I-5 in Tacoma
Pierce County -- On May 9, 2011, a 35 year-old Spanaway woman was seriously injured in a collision on southbound I-5 just south of 38th St. The Spanaway woman was driving a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta, and while merging onto I-5 from 38th St. she initially struck a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. After striking the Chevrolet Avalanche, the 35 year-old Spanaway woman spun around broadside into the next lane. A 43 year-old Marysville man driving a 2010 Volvo Semi was not able to avoid striking the Jetta.
The 35 year-old Spanaway woman was transported to Tacoma General Hospital with serious injuries. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be involved and everyone was wearing a seatbelt. No one else was injured in the collision.
