3 Car Fatality Collision Blocks Lanes on Interstate 405

A 3 car fatality collision blocked the right 2 lanes of Interstate 405 just north of Interstate 90 for nearly two hours as a collision investigation occurred.

At 10:20 this morning a 3 car collision was reported blocking the 2 right lanes of northbound Interstate 405 just north of Interstate 90.  A 17 year old Issaquah man was driving a red Dodge Neon in the middle lane when he made a sudden motion to avoid stopping traffic.  The Neon lost control and struck a gold Chevrolet Suburban in the left rear before rotating in front of a green Honda where it was struck in the driver’s side.

The driver of the Neon was rushed to Harborview Medical Center for treatment but did not survive his injuries. The Chevrolet driver, a Mount Lake Terrace man, was transported to Overlake Hospital with minor injuries.  The Honda driver, a 46 year old female from Renton, received minor injuries.

Speed too fast for conditions is a factor in this collision which is still under investigation.

Traffic in the area was slow moving due to a collision that had occurred a little further north a few minutes prior to this collision.  The Washington State Patrol reminds all drivers that even on a clear morning traffic can suddenly slow and stop.  Keep in mind that traffic slowing in lane 1 can quickly effect traffic in all the lanes.  Focusing attention on the roadway and driving with caution can help reduce this type of tragedy.

Next of kin were not notified at the time of this release.
