Suspect in Kitsap County Shooting Identified
Kitsap County - The man fatally wounded in Sunday’s shooting has been identified by the Kitsap County Coroner’s Office as 31 year-old Anthony A. Martinez of Utah. Martinez was involved in an exchange of gunfire with Kitsap County Deputies on Sunday, January 23 at approximately 3:45 pm when deputies responded to the Port Orchard Wal-mart on a report of a suspicious person.
The details of the original dispatch call that led deputies to the Port Orchard Wal-mart are not being released at this time. Preliminary reports indicate that a citizen had called in to report a suspicious person.
Details on why Martinez was in the Kitsap County area are unknown at this time. An associated vehicle belonging to Martinez has been seized as evidence and is expected to be searched later this week.
The young female who later died at Tacoma General Hospital has not been identified. Once identification has been determined, that information will be made available to the media. Autopsies were performed on Martinez and the young female earlier this afternoon. The cause of death has not been released.
