Be Safe With Your Cell Phone

The Washington State Patrol is asking for motorists’ continued cooperation in complying with the hands- free cell phone and no texting while driving laws.

The WSP wants to remind drivers that distracted driving is dangerous driving as most collisions involve some sort of distraction or inattention. “When you are driving, you need to be focused on the task at hand which is driving, and not allow yourself to get distracted” said Captain Jeff Otis the District Commander in Spokane. “We’ve noticed an increase in motorists talking on their cell phones while driving the last few weeks” he said. Drivers need to use a hands-free device if talking on the phone while driving and please never text while driving as this takes your eyes off of the road for an extended amount of time.

The Washington State Patrol is dedicated to a safe motoring public and we will continue to be proactive in our efforts through education and enforcement to ensure this. With your help, we can avoid serious injury and fatality collisions caused by distracted driving.
