Early Morning High Speed Collision Kills Rochester Man
On Friday October 1, 2010, a 20-year-old Rochester man was killed in a collision south of Olympia. Evgeny P. Snyder was driving a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up southbound on Case Rd at the 17700 block at a high rate of speed. Snyder failed to maintain control of his vehicle, left the roadway, and struck multiple trees.
Troopers arrived at the collision scene at approximately 7:22 a.m and started the collision investigation. Preliminary speed measurements indicated that Snyder was driving at a minimum of 70 mph. The posted speed limit at the location the collision occurred is 50 mph. Evgeny was also not wearing a seatbelt.
The Washington State Patrol wants to remind drivers that speed affects crash severity. The probability of serious injury increases as your speed does. Please pay close attention to the posted speed limits and follow them. Even a very minor collision can result in serious injury or death if the driver and/or passengers are unrestrained. Please remember to always wear your seatbelt.
