7 Injured by DUI Driver on Interstate 90

A suspected DUI driver injured 7 occupants of a Chevy Uplander used as Metro Rideshare vehicle on eastbound Interstate 90 near Issaquah this morning.

Just prior to 6:00 a.m. the DUI driver, identified as Douglas Henderson, 26, from Issaquah was driving his white Ford pickup truck at a high rate of speed in the HOV lane when he rear-ended the Uplander. The force of the impact pushed the Uplander off the right side of Interstate 90 where it rolled onto its passenger side. One passenger was ejected and four others were pinned inside the mangled wreckage of the Uplander for nearly an hour as Bellevue firefighters struggled to free them. After a careful and complicated extrication, firefighters successfully freed all of the trapped passengers and quickly routed them to Harborview Medical Center and Overlake Hospital.

Henderson was taken to Overlake Hospital for precautionary medical evaluations and was eventually released and booked into the King County Jail on charges of vehicular assault and DUI.

At the time of this release the names of those injured in the Uplander have not been released by the hospitals and their injuries range from minor to moderate and all expected to make full recoveries.
