High Speed DUI Collision Injures Olympia Man

Olympia - On August 28, 2010 at 05:34 a.m., 20 year-old Charles D. Pokorny was injured in a collision at the 10600 block of Littlerock Rd Sw.  Pokorny was driving 1991 Acura Integra southbound when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road.  Pokorny drove off the roadway at a high rate of speed and struck a power pole.

Because of the severe amount of damage to the vehicle fire personnel had cut the majority of the driver’s side apart to remove Pokorny.  Troopers at the collision scene developed probable cause that Pokorny was driving under the influence and a blood test was administered.

The higher your speed (above the posted speed limit) the greater the likelihood you’ll be involved in a collision, due to the reduction in response time.  Adding alcohol into this scenario further lengthens reaction and response times.

Pokorny is very fortunate that he was not fatally injured in this collision.  Pokorny was wearing his seatbelt which played a large role in saving his life.
