Interstate 182 – August Emphasis
The Washington State Patrol will be conducting a month long emphasis patrol on Interstate 182 between mile 3 and mile post 14. In 2009 this roadway had three fatality collisions. The first collision occurred on October 5, 2009 at mile post 5. The second collision occurred on November 8, 2009 at mile post 3. The final collision occurred on November 26, 2009 at mile post 10.
The troopers assigned to the Kennewick APA (Autonomous Patrol Area) will be targeting collision causing and injury/fatality causing offenses. Historically this has proved to be violations of the speed limit, impaired drivers, and restraint violations. However, we recognize the importance of educating and taking enforcement on drivers that follow too close, make erratic lane changes and engage in driving behavior that cause other drivers to take evasive action.
The Washington State Patrol will be utilizing Aviation, unmarked patrol vehicles, marked patrol vehicles, and motorcycles to educate the public and enforce violations that cause collisions.
