Double Fatality Collision Closes Interstate 5 in Seattle for Over Four Hours
Two young men died in an early morning collision that occurred northbound on Interstate 5 near Mercer Street. Witnesses reported seeing a silver BMW travelling at a very high rate of speed around 2:45 a.m., just before it clipped another vehicle and spun out of control. The BMW then slammed into the rear of a moving Seattle Fire Department medic unit. The driver, a 24 year old Tumwater man and the passenger, a 23 year old Lynnwood man were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the medic unit were transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
While the details are still under investigation, alcohol appears to be a factor in this tragic and preventable collision.
