Federal Way Teen Killed by Suspected Drunk Driver

A Federal Way teen was killed in a two vehicle collision last night at the hands of a suspected drunk driver.  The collision occurred at 10:30pm southbound I-5 just south of the Southcenter area.  Three teens were traveling southbound in lane 2 when their Honda became disabled and they were unable to clear the vehicle to the shoulder.  The vehicle stopped in lane 2 and the driver activated the emergency hazard lights to warn other motorists.  The second vehicle involved, a Ford Explorer, driven by Alexander E. Peder of Kirkland, struck the rear of the Honda with great force.  The rear passenger of the Honda was Derek N. King of Federal Way.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the Honda, Anthony D. Beaver, and front passenger, Nicholas A. Hodgins, both from Federal Way, were also injured in the collision.  Peder was injured in the collision as well.  All parties were transported to Haborview Medical Center for treatment.

At 0336 hours, Peder was released from Haborview Medical Center to state troopers who booked him into the King County Jail on charges of Vehicular Homicide and Vehicular Assault.
