Certificate of Competency Holders
In Washington State, any person performing installation, alteration, and or repairing a fire protection sprinkler system, standpipe, hose, or an assembly of sprinkler piping, or any such system must be certified as competent by the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office.
To receive a Certificate of Competency or to become a Trainee:
1. Download the application forms
Download the application forms as listed below, or you can contact the Washington State Fire Marshal's Office at (360) 596-3918 and request that an application packet be sent electronically or to a mailing address.

2. Submit all indicated application forms
Submit all indicated application forms to Post Office Box 42600 in Olympia, WA 98504-2600.
3. A certificate will be issued
A certificate will be issued verifying compliance with this program. However, due to pending legislative approval of the program fee structure, no permanent documentation can be issued until after June. Temporary credentials will be issued until such time as the fee structure is approved and payment can be accepted for certification.
