Risk Watch Book List

Talk to Children about Safety Issues

Here are some ways you can use these books with your children:

  • Talk with your child before, during and after reading a book together.
  • Make reading at home fun and warm.
  • Use the events in the story to talk about your family's safety rules or what your family would do in a similar situation. For instance, "Arthur's family has a fire escape plan, would you like to make one for our family?"
  • Ask your child to predict what might happen next in the story: "What do you think could happen to the little girl if she forgets to wear her bike helmet and falls off of her bike?"
