Pyrotechnic Operators

Pyrotechic Operator

In Washington State, a person desiring a pyrotechnic Operators License must apply to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. This license will permit the holder to perform public displays throughout the year under the employ of a General Display Licensee.

To become a Pyrotechnic Operator, you may download the Pyrotechnic Operator Application Form and the Letter of Reference Form, or contact our office at (360) 570-3134 to request the forms be sent to you.

After completing the forms, return them to the address indicated along with the $10 licensing fee [non-refundable] to our office. Once received, the application will be reviewed by the Deputy State Fire Marshal in charge of the Fireworks Licensing Program for approval. Once approved, the applicant will be contacted and a time will be scheduled for testing which is based upon WAC Chapter 212-17 .

After obtaining a passing score of 70% or better, the applicant will receive his/her Pyrotechnic Operator License. To renew this license, simply download the Renewal Application for Pyrotechnic Operator License and submit it along with the $10 renewal fee to our office along with information pertaining to your pyrotechnic work performed in the prior year.

In order to perform a Public Display of Fireworks, download the Request for Public Display Permit Form or contact our office at (360) 570-3134 to have the form sent to you.

As a Pyrotechnic Operator, there is a fee of $10 for each Public Display Permit Form requested. Once received, take the form to the local jurisdictions for approval.

Pyrotechnic Operators are required to provide to the State Fire Marshal’s Office a report from each display performed. Download the Pyrotechnic Operator Report for a Fireworks Display or contact our office at (360) 570-3134 and request the report be sent to you.

This license is valid from the date issued to January 31 of the subsequent year.
