Fire Training Academy· Fire Service Training Courses

The Fire Training Academy provides fire service training courses for fire department firefighting and also facilitates various cooperative courses available to fire department trainers.

Notice: Students attending Academy classes with burn prop applications are required to have met all training requirements for live fire training listed in NFPA 1403. All students and instructors shall have full protective clothing, safety equipment that meets current NFPA standards, and breathing apparatus and spare bottle that meet NFPA standards and with a current hydrostatic test date.

Registration:

If no check is attached to application, applicant will be considered department sponsored. If no department is listed on application and no check is included, applicant will not be registered. You may either mail or fax the registration form ( fax number is on the form) to the Fire Training Academy.

Cancellations:

The Fire Training Academy must be notified in writing five (5) working days prior to the scheduled start date of the classes or the full student fee will be assessed.

All prices are effective January 1, 2009 and are subject to change (due to market fluctuations).


Fire Department Firefighting


Burn to Learn – BTL-001 – $180 per student

This 8-hour program introduces new firefighters to fire development theory as well as water application principals in order to effectively extinguish interior “Class A” fires. It is a program, which provides firefighters with the skills necessary to function as the nozzle operator of an interior fire attack team. Firefighters will work in a variety of fire situations utilizing direct, indirect and combination water application techniques. This curriculum meets WAC 296-305-05501 (2), and NFPA 1403 Fire Fighter I performance requirements.

Extrication - Awareness – AEC-001 – $315 per student

This 8-hour class will cover an introduction to auto extrication including safety concerns. The first 2-hours will involve a classroom, followed by 5-hours on the drill ground.  Hands-on stations will give the students the ability to work on: Identifying Hazards, Tool Selection and Technique, Stabilization of the Vehicle and Patient Disentanglement.

Extrication - Operations – AEC-002 – $315 per student

This comprehensive 8-hour class will involve 2-hours of classroom instruction that will introduce the student to the hazards associated with vehicle entrapment, air bags, seat belt pre-tensioners, vehicle stabilization, and new car construction. The next 5-hours on the drill ground will involve extensive hands on training in the use of hydraulic, hand tools and vehicle stabilization with telecribbing struts in reality based scenarios.  This is more than your average “take the doors and roof class”.

Extrication - Technician – TEC-001 – $400 per student

The course will offer realistic and challenging scenarios for you to respond to take control and mitigate.  Topics will include auto extrication with and without hydraulic rescue tools, shoring, airbag usage, and hazard stabilization.  Participants shall meet the requirements of NFPA 1006 and 1670 at the Technician level for Vehicle and Machinery Rescue.

Flammable Liquids I – FLC-001 – $180 per student

This program will supplement a firefighter’s basic hose handling skills and knowledge base in dealing with flammable liquid “Class B” fire incidents. The class will include setting up foam firefighting equipment and the use of dry chemical extinguishing agents. Classroom presentations cover flammable liquid fuel properties, behavior of flammable liquids, capabilities of fire extinguishing agents, personnel safety, tactics and environmental concerns. This curriculum meets WAC 296-305-05501 (2), and NFPA 1403 performance requirements for Firefighter II level certification.

Flammable Liquids 2 – FLC-002 – $180 per student

During this program the students will be taught the basic properties of liquefied petroleum gasses, L.P.G. powered vehicle fuel systems, storage tanks and the safety features built into them, product identification and basic tactics for L.P.G. emergencies. The students will also participate in controlling live fires on a simulated horizontal storage tank, manifold and L.P. fill station.

Multiple Company Operations – MCO-002 – $400 per crew

This 8-hour program provides special opportunities for Fire Fighters to receive multi-company operations and live fire training. This training will provide IMS/WAC/NFPA updates, pump operator challenges, scenario dispatching, vehicle/flammable liquid fires, search and rescue and passport accountability.

Search & Rescue I – SRC-001 – $135 per student

This 8-hour class covers the basic skills a firefighter needs to function efficiently during interior search and rescue missions using self-contained breathing apparatus. The class emphasizes the basic functions of a search team in locating and removing victims. It will cover techniques on how to perform a primary and secondary search in occupancies as well as emergency procedures firefighters must initiate should they become separated from the search team or become disoriented.

Search & Rescue 2 (Survivability) – SRC-002 – $135 per student

This 8-hour program provides firefighters with the skills to remove themselves and others from adverse conditions that threaten their survival. Firefighters will learn and practice how to escape a hostile environment by breaching a wall, escaping out a window onto a ladder as well as techniques to remove a down firefighter.

Search & Rescue 3 (RIT) – SRC-003 – $215 per student

The class challenges firefighters to apply skills to remove themselves and others from situations that threaten their lives. The curriculum will review emergency use of SCBA, exiting a building using a hose line and radio procedures on how to declare a MAYDAY. Firefighters will learn and practice how to deploy a Rapid Intervention Team, as well as the utilization of Thermal Imaging Equipment in locating victims.

Truck Skills Academy - Basic – TSA-001 – $665 per student

Truck Company Operations are a key ingredient to all successful fire ground operations. Weather your department has a dedicated truck company or not, the need for fire ground support is always there. This essential fire ground support function may be carried out by a Ladder Company or by those trained and equipped to perform Truck Company Operations.
This five day class will focus on the Truck Company basics with a heavy emphasis on fire behavior, building construction and the capabilities and limitations of you and your equipment. Among the functions that will be covered are: ventilation of the pitched roof, flat roof and positive pressure ventilation, forcible entry, ladders, rescue, oriented search, inside operations of the truck, safety and survival and multi company operations. The class delivers five days of hands on training with three days of live fire operations.

Truck Skills Academy - Advanced – TSA-002 – $665 per student

Truck Company Operations when carried out by highly trained and equipped personnel provide a higher degree of fire ground efficiency and safety to all on the scene. Truck companies carry an array of specialized equipment and trained personnel to manage the chaotic world of the fire service.
This five day course will reinforce the basics and move into some of the more advanced aspects and skills needed for safe and efficient Truck Company operations. Among the functions that will be covered are: aerial physics and operations, commercial ventilation, advanced search, vent enter search, heavy forcible entry (burning breaching breaking), advanced ground ladders, RIT and multi-company operations. This class is five full days of on hands-on training with two days of live fire operations.
