Employment · Forensic Professional RequirementsPlease note: Only positions with active links are open at this time. Forensic Scientist 1 (open) - Minimum Requirements A bachelor of science degree in forensic science or a natural science, which includes a minimum of 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of chemistry, and 5 semester or 8 quarter hours of physics; and Desirable: One year of full-time paid technical experience in an analytical, research, or crime laboratory. Note: An advanced degree in forensic science or a natural science will substitute for one year of experience in an analytical, research, or crime laboratory. Forensic Scientist 2 (open) - Minimum Requirements A bachelor of science degree in forensic science or a natural science, which includes a minimum of 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of chemistry, and 5 semester or 8 quarter hours of physics; and Two years of full-time paid technical experience in an analytical, research, or crime laboratory, one year of which must have been in a forensic science laboratory performing analyses of physical evidence and testifying as an expert in courts of law. Forensic Scientist 3 (open) - Minimum Requirements A bachelor of science degree in forensic science or a natural science, which includes a minimum of 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of chemistry, and 5 semester or 8 quarter hours of physics; and Two years of experience as a Forensic Scientist 2 or three years full-time paid technical experience in a forensic science laboratory performing analyses of physical evidence which includes testifying as an expert witness in courts of law. Forensic Scientist 4 - Minimum Requirements A Bachelor of Science degree in forensic science or a natural science which includes a minimum of 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of chemistry and 5 semester or 8 quarter hours of physics; and Two years of experience as a Forensic Scientist 3 or five years of full-time paid technical experience in a forensic science laboratory which includes two years performing analyses of physical evidence and testifying as an expert witness in courts of law. All applicants for any position with the Washington State Patrol will be required to complete a Personal Background Evaluation form and attach it to their application. Background investigations will include a polygraph examination and are conducted due to the confidential nature and security of the job and the agency. Applicants offered a polygraph exam must bring a certified copy of their driving records from the Department of Licensing ($5) to the polygraph appointment. Any felony or misdemeanor convictions or involvement in felonious or misdemeanor activities, including, but not limited to, controlled substances, theft, moral turpitude, fraud, larceny, or crimes of violence will be reasons for disqualification for employment.
