This page contains information about community outreach activities, how they differ from POPS, and who you can contact to participate.

The Washington State Patrol has a tradition of engaging in a variety of community outreach activities. Schools, military bases, and service clubs commonly request that our troopers talk about DUI, seat belts and child restraints, bicycle and pedestrian safety, and other traffic safety issues.

Troopers and other qualified State Patrol employees also provide displays and participate in county and state fairs, local health and safety fairs, and recruiting booths at job fairs. We have recruiters statewide.

While our community outreach and Problem Oriented Public Safety (POPS) approaches are both vital, there are key differences. Community outreach requests are general in nature, whereas POPS activities are more narrowly focused on specific problems in local areas.

You can request a community outreach activity by calling any local State Patrol office. Specific problems should be directed to local POPS trooper. The resulting problem solving efforts may have a community outreach element that will be facilitated by a POPS trooper.
