El Protector· Youth Ambassador Program
Mission:
To create a youth outreach program that engages students as Ambassadors. The program places emphasis on DUI education and occupant protection, as well as other traffic safety issues.
Goals:

Educate Hispanic/Latino students at Pasco High School in the El Protector Concept - HIGH SCHOOL AMBASSADORS

Evolve the program to reach all students at all levels of education within the Hispanic/Latino community.
Action Plan
The "El Protector" Advisory Committee involves key members of the Hispanic/Latino community who are actively trying to make a difference. The following is a list of committed Advisory Committee members:
- Secure referrals of students from Pasco High School.
- Develop framework of the educational plan.
- Meet with law enforcement stakeholders.
- Meet with school administration.
- Educate and train the selected Student Ambassadors on the goals of the program and the causes and possible solutions to the disproportionate number of fatal and felony collisions involving Hispanic/Latino drivers in Eastern Washington.
- Prepare the Student Ambassadors to deliver the El Protector message.
- El Protector club
- School assemblies
- Area youth groups
- Community events
- Other
Desired Outcomes

By educating Hispanic/Latino youths on traffic safety, a moderate reduction of traffic accidents can be projected into the next decade as the concept of safe driving practices become incorporated into the students' culture, and as they share this information with their families and their community.

Students will benefit from life skills training to encompass leadership, public speaking, organization and team building, which they will carry with them into adulthood.

Students' esteem will increase as they become more comfortable in their role of Ambassadors, and as they begin to be perceived as leaders by their peers.

Students' bilingual/bicultural skills will be highly valued in their role of Ambassadors, which will put a global perspective to these skills.

Possible recruitment tool for the Washington State Patrol and other police departments.
